Hand sorting coffee

Ethiopian Coffee sorting

When I open a fresh 60kg bag of coffee, I marvel afresh at the number of individual beans there are in a bag (I’ve no idea exactly how many, but it must be in the 100’s of thousands).

For a bean like Ethiopian Harar, every one of the cherries those beans formed in would have been hand picked, and the little video below (via Sweetmaria’s ) highlights just how much work goes into giving me that beautiful, wild, fruity elixir.

Australian grown coffee

Coffee plants at Skybury

Has Australian grown coffee come of age?
Can you really grow high quality coffee at 300 metres?
It would be a really fine thing if we could produce a world-class green coffee right here in Oz. Up to now, I haven’t been convinced that we can. But an article in today’s Sydney Morning Herald will have me checking again…
