A Rainforest Blend - update

Well I’m a little surprised!
I knocked together the blend of Rainforest Alliance beans as described in the previous post. I let it rest for 3 days before a quick cupping and then a cup or two of plunger.
I wasn’t very impressed.
Given that any RFA blend must have a fair amount of Central and South American coffee in it, that didn’t surprise me – I generally find most such coffees quite ugly until they’ve had enough rest. But this time, I couldn’t find much positive to say about it at all.

So left it for another 4 days, and then pulled a few espressos with it.
Hmmm, there was something rather interesting developing. The Brazil’s natural sweetness was coming out, but also the lovely complexity of the Colombian Kachalu organic was also emerging – again, more caramelly sweetness, but also the Yirg-like citrusy high notes were there.

Finally, after 10 days, I think this blend is hitting it’s stride!
Shots are mouth-watering sweet, deliciously tart as well, and have a gorgeous, linger aftertaste for continued enjoyment for a long time…

Very pleased with this first attempt.
A second batch was roasted up yesterday with a single tweak to the recipe to see if that helps it along…

But look for this in the MG store soon as green and roasted, as I reckon it’s a winner…
