July arrival Special Reserve coffees
Just a quick heads up on what’s in the next ‘Special Reserve’ Mercanta shipment due at Ministry Grounds mid-late July:
Have grinder, will travel (with fresh coffee!)
So important is the grinder to fine coffee, that when people starting the journey of exploration into quality coffee ask me my opinion about a particular espresso machine or something similar, I respond by asking ‘what about the grinder’. I go on to urge them to buy a decent grinder before even looking at sophisticated brewing methods. But that can be a problem…
El Salvador Cup of Excellence on the way...
I’m very excited to know that I’ve secured a bag of Lot 30 from the recent El Salvador Cup of Excellence auction! This will be one of two bags only of this Lot to come to Australia.

The last few weeks has seen a run of Cup of Excellence judging and auctions in and around Central American coffee growing countries.
I normally don’t pay a huge amount of attention to them, other than general coffee curiosity, but now I hooked up with the supply chain for Mercanta coffees, suddenly getting my hands on some CoE coffee is no longer a remote dream.
Finally, the beans have landed...
After a week or so of stuffing around with the freight company (they were grumbling because I didn’t have commercial premises), the pallet of Mercanta coffees has finally arrived…
Domincan Republic Coffee
Unlike many coffee growing countries, the Dominican Republic grows most of it’s coffee for local consumption. Which means that a lot of the coffee that is exported is, well, ordinary quality.
But I have a bag arriving this week that is anything but ordinary
Roast-grind-brew from one machine!
This rather amazing gadget is all the buzz around the coffee blogosphere at the moment.
